The Farmhouse Ardene is an ideal location for discovering an area rich in history and art.
A place which allows its guests to combine relax with interesting excursions in cities full of art,
admiring churches, museums and unchanged landscapes.
Not far away from Montepulciano it is possible to visit other well-know villages and enjoy the view
and spirit with the enchanting and suggestive locations between Valdichiana and Val d’Orcia.
Small Medieval Hamlets like Monticchiello, Bagno Vignoni, Rocca d’Orcia, Castiglioncello del Trinoro
and Montefollonico will take you back in time and evoke strong feelings of familiarity.
We also recommend a visit to the other towns with a long historical and cultural tradition such
us Sinalunga, Torrita di Siena, San Gimignano, San Quirico, Castiglion d’Orcia, Abbadia S. Salvatore,
Radicofani, San Casciano dei Bagni and Cetona.

With no doubt, your excursions will allow you to enter in contact with the Etruscan civilization.
In fact, these lands belonged to the powerful city of Chiusi which was identified with the ancient
Kamars of Porsenna (The Lucumon). This legendary Etruscan King became famous for having defeated
Romans and conquered Rome. Visiting the museums and the several necropolis of Chiusi,
Chianciano Terme and Sarteano you will go back in time discovering one of the most mysterious people
of our history.
However, Montepulciano is not the only one town with a Renaissance aspect.
Therefore, also Montalcino, Pienza, and Cortona deserve a visit for their 16th century buildings
and religious monuments.
Moreover, this area is crossed by the so called Via Francigena or Romea, the medieval road which
linked Rome to the North Europe and used by pilgrims to reach the Holy See. In the South of the
Sienese area, this route of faith passed through Val d’Arbia and Val d’Orcia heading towards the
lands of region Lazio at the foot of Monte Amiata.
A bit more distant from Montepulciano it is possible to discover the suggestive Abbeys of Sant’Antimo,
San Galgano and Monte Oliveto Maggiore, but also other cultural centres such as Orvieto, Todi,
Assisi, Gubbio, Monteriggioni, San Gimignano and Volterra.
Lastly, follow the proverb “First try and then Trust!”…because wandering around this nature and
loosing yourselves in these boundless landscapes is the only way to live strong emotions!
You are now surrounded by green hills and valleys and once later by bare and clay hills moulded
in times.

Distant landscapes are dotted with cypress trees in perfect isolation. Hills and cultivated
fields - where man and nature have skilfully collaborate to alternate olive groves and vineyards
with some ancient oak and ilex trees – dwell an essential, yet perfect landscape. The green and
clay hills typical of the Sienese countryside will be unforgettable!
Ardene lies between the Valdorcia and the Valdichiana, well-known sites since the Roman
age for the production of extra virgin olive oil, wine and wheat.
